Outline

Continuing from the previous ACFEHK seminar presented in Feb 2025 on the introduction to “Forensic Document Examination” & “Forensic Handwriting analysis”, this talk gives a deeper dive into the actual practice of forensic handwriting examination.

We will discuss the requirements of control samples for forensic handwriting analysis in terms of (i) quantity, (ii) quality, (iii) contemporaneousness, and (iv) the use of requested specimens, and their impacts on expert’s opinion.

Moreover, the importance of examining the original documents as opposed to copied documents will be covered. The differences in the features of pen-strokes, ink-jet printing, laser printing, and stamp impressions will be presented and demonstrated.

Presenter

Mallory M Y Leung

Mallory received comprehensive training in forensic handwriting analysis with reference to the training requirements of the “European Network of Forensic Science Institutes (ENFSI)” and the “Scientific Working Group for Forensic Document Examination (SWGDOC)”.

She has hands-on experience with forensic document examination instruments such as Electrostatic Vacuum Box and Illuminators, etc.

Since 2020, Mallory has reported on over 80 cases of questioned documents and handwriting examination in both Chinese and English, and served as an expert witness in court proceedings.
